Treasury appoints Ms. Neala Wanjala as Acting DG of the PPP Directorate

PPP Senior Management Neala Wanjala

Ms. Neala Wanjala has been appointed the Acting Director General of the Public Private Partnerships Directorate of the Kenya’s National Treasury. The Principal Secretary of the National Treasury, Dr. Chris Kiptoo unveiled Ms. Wanjala to PPP staff today during a courtesy call on the Directorate.

“Ms. Wanjala will serve as an Acting DG till a substantive occupant of the DG post is identified through a competitive recruitment process”, said the PS. Already, he said, the National Treasury has set in motion a process to identify a new DG.

The post has fallen vacant following the reassignment of Amb. Christopher Kirigua to take up new roles as Deputy Ambassador and National Treasury representative in Washington, D.C.

The PS reminded PPP staff that they occupied an important space within the public service saying PPPs were a central pillar within the wider resource mobilization strategies currently under deployment by Government.

“As Government, we are increasingly going to tap into the resources and expertise of the private sector to ease our fiscal burden by allowing investors to finance, develop, construct and maintain our infrastructural projects”, he said.

He encouraged staff to discharge their functions without fear or favour and to observe integrity at all times in their work. Based on recent learnings, he added, the Directorate should inculcate the culture of transparency and public involvement at all key decision points of the PPP project development process to ensure the successful roll-out of projects.

Ms. Wanjala is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Nairobi, and a Master of Laws degree from the University of London. She also has an MBA degree from the United States University, Africa. She is a certified PPP professional (AMPG CP3P) and certified public secretary (from the Institute of Certified Secretaries, Kenya).

She has worked within the financial sector for over 20 years, both at private commercial banks and within the financial regulatory financial space in Kenya. She has been at the PPP Directorate of the National Treasury for almost 5 years, and has held various positions in the Legal Department, prior to her appointment to the role of Director, Legal Services in June 2024.
